365

2013 - Happy New Year. Today I've dug into my archives and pulled out some photographs that I want to share. I am creating a photo album called 365 where I will post a new picture each day of the year. If you like it, feel free to share it. I know this project will have a life of its own and I can't wait to see how it unfolds. May all your wildest dreams come true for you this coming year. Dream big! This album is being updated daily on my facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/sfphotosafari?ref=tn_tnmn

  • Day 1 - It's a new day, a new dawn. Taken at Foley Beach in South Carolina.
  • Day 2 - I like photographing reflections - they come in many forms. This is the time of year many people reflect on the past year and look forward to the future. Jer 29:11
  • Day 3 - This was kind of a cool experiment and outside the box. It combines my love for low light photography and reflections. I set up my camera on a tripod and turned off all the lights. I took a red laser pointer and circled it on one section at a time. Each exposure was 3-10 seconds. I had 6-9 frames altogether. Then in Photoshop I made each frame a layer and gave each layer it's own neon color. Then I combined all the layers into one and this is what it produced.
  • Day 4 - This picture was taken at Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierras and it was like landing on the moon. The early morning sunrise lends itself to beautiful colors and still waters. The rock formations are called tufa towers and are made of limestone.
  • Day 5 - This is a reflection shot which was taken in San Diego at Balboa Park. The first time I went to Balboa Park was with my good friend Anne Goetsch who lives in LaJolla. It was an exciting location to discover because it really lent itself to night photography. I have revisited this area on another occasion with my son, Nick.
  • Day 6 - I love the glass art of Dale Chihuly of Tacoma, WA. I discovered him several years ago on a trip to the Glass Museum in Tacoma. This picture was taken at his exhibit at the DeYoung Museum several years ago.
  • Day 7 - In 2009 I took a trip to Charleston, South Carolina with the Rocky Mountain School of photography. When we arrived at a yacht club I wasn't too excited about the photographic prospects. That was until the sun started setting. The colors emerged and reflections abound. Now I was excited! This is one of my favorite all time shots.
  • Day 8 - Anyone visiting Chicago surely recognizes the "Bean" called so as it is shaped as a jelly bean and located in Millennium Park. With a mirror like finish, it attracts people from all over. It's actual name is "Cloud Gate". Went to Chicago with fellow photographer and friend Merrill Mack.
  • Day 9 - Piggy backing yesterday's photo - inside the "bean".
  • Day 10 - Been feeling chilly these days, so I thought I would post a few snow shots. There is no where else in the world like the alps in Switzerland. Stunning. Taken during my trip to visit Diana Unverricht and family.
  • Day 11 - Lots of activity and movement ice skating in San Francisco at Justin Herman Plaza. With friend Merrill Mack.
  • Day 12 - Big game today. This is the only professional football game I've attended and it was back in 2007. Attended game with my son, Nick Carter. Go 49ers!
  • Day 13 - One more game and we're heading to the Super Bowl!
  • Day 14 - Brrrrr, another cold, chilly morning. Above picture taken in the Alps of Switzerland.
  • Day 15 - the collegiate mountain range in Central Colorado near small town of Buena Vista where friend Sharon Spurgeon Pikul lives.
  • Day 16 - Went to Mt. Baker last year with Deirdre Austin and my little Godson and family. It was absolutely beautiful.
  • Day 17 - A cute little snow bird at Mt. Baker
  • Day 18 - Joshua Tree National Park. Friend CJ lives in Southern California not too far from the Park. I've been three times now and really enjoy photographing this location. One time I was photographing at night and it was soooo cold. I would set up my camera on the tripod for a long exposure. I would click the shutter button and run back into the warm car. Then after a few minutes run back and click the shutter again. That was how I took my pictures that night.
  • Day 19 - The simplicity of nature. Taken at Mt. Baker, WA.
  • Day 20 - 49er fans are the best! Come on 49ers, one more game!
